DAMIAN LILLARD EXPLAINS WHY HE REMAINS LOYAL TO THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

Superstar Damian Lillard is the face of the Portland Trail Blazers, having spent his entire career with the franchise. There is no doubt that he is the best example of loyalty in the NBA, and he has never requested a trade from the Trail Blazers, even in the toughest times.

Recently, we saw Damian Lillard explain why he remains with the Portland Trail Blazers. He pointed out that the team could trade him to a team that is a contender on paper but doesn't end up working out for him.

“They could trade me to somewhere that we all say, ‘This is a contender.' But I mean, how do we know if everybody's gonna be healthy? How do we know if it's gonna work out?” Damian Lillard asks. “Like, when [Russell Westbrook] went to the Lakers, everybody was ‘Lakers!' you know what I mean? Then they got Russ coming off the bench like he's not a Hall of Famer, and try to put a battery in his back, like, man, if you come off the bench, that'd be like, man, that's Russell Westbrook. Like, what? But like, neither thing is guaranteed, you know what I mean?”

It is true that the grass isn't always greener. Sometimes trades are disastrous both for the team and the player, even though they are well-hyped beforehand. Hopefully, we do see Damian Lillard get a chance to truly contend for a championship in the future with the Portland Trail Blazers.

This season, Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 7.3 APG for the Portland Trail Blazers. He is continuing to show that he is one of the best point guards in the league, and we'll see how the Trail Blazers continue to build around him.

The Trail Blazers Still Want To Build Around Damian Lillard

Even though the Portland Trail Blazers have the No. 3 overall pick and could rebuild, it seems as though their primary objective is to build around Damian Lillard and give him a chance to truly compete in the Western Conference.

"Damian Lillard created a little bit of a stir when he showed up to watch the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center during the playoffs and caught his guy Mikal Bridges playing. With that said, Portland still plans to build around Lillard, I’m told."

We will see what ends up happening in the future, and the team has notably been linked to Deandre Ayton. They could make other moves as well since the No. 3 pick is a high-value asset, but regardless, it is likely that the team will be better in one way or another.
