“I'M NOT RETIRED FROM THE NBA JUST YET” - DWIGHT HOWARDS REVEALS URGE TO HELP THE SACRAMENTO KINGS WIN A TITLE

Despite being forced to play in Taiwan’s T1 League, Dwight Howard hasn’t given up on his dream of returning to the NBA. Moreover, the 5-time Rebounds league leader revealed his desire to help the Sacramento Kings win an NBA Champion under coach Mike Brown. In an interview with Mark Haynes of the Observer, Howard proclaimed how he isn’t done yet.

I'm not retired from the NBA just yet. I would love to help the Sacramento Kings contend for a title. Even though I believe their team is pretty much set,” said Howard.

Dwight on coach Mike Brown

Led by coach Mike Brown, the Kings showed resilience in ending their 16-year playoff drought as the third seed in the Western Conference. This young core of players in Sacramento plays an up-tempo style of basketball that relies on 3-level scoring to keep defenses off balance. As acknowledged by Howard, the credit solely goes to Mike Brown.

I like Mike Brown. I think he's an amazing coach, and what he accomplished this year was very impressive,” added Howard.

Despite having All-Stars in the form of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, the Kings lack championship experience within their roster. This is just where Dwight Howard can come into play. Furthermore, the inclusion of the 8-time All-Star can even provide some valiant time for Sabonis on the bench.

On the flip side, 37-year-old, Howard's limited effectiveness outside the restricted area makes it unlikely for the fast-paced Sacramento Kings to pursue him in free agency.

Howard’s desire to win one more NBA title

In an exclusive interview with NBA Insider Shams Charania earlier this year, the 8-time All-NBA Team member mentioned the urgency to end his illustrious career with another NBA title.

I would love to come back to play in the NBA. I do enjoy playing international basketball. Just the experience is one of a kind. It's a different type (of) grind of being in the NBA. I would love to finish off my career with an NBA team, hopefully, win an NBA championship,” Howard admitted.

To his credit, it does look like Dwight has sufficient gas left in his tank. ‘D12’ averaged 23.2 PPG, 16.2 RPG, and 5 APG in 20 contests in the T1 League last season. It remains to be seen, if this was enough to lure an NBA team before the 2023-24 season.
